Concern for People 


It may seem obvious, but genuine concern for people is the top trait to look for when hiring a CNA. Nurse assisting is a profession that deals with people in pain and discomfort, so it is vital that a CNA maintains a caring and empathetic manner at all times. Compassion and kindness mean as much to patients as the actual physical care they receive.  

CNAs work directly with patients, so their concern for others is the key to long-term motivation in the profession. Listening to patient concerns and providing them with mental support goes a long way to aid the healing process of those who are ill.  


Work Ethic 


When hiring a CNA, look for candidates who are hardworking and dedicated to their chosen profession. CNAs are in great demand and this is welcome news for CNAs who like to work. However, as the population ages and the number of admissions increases, the workload is often too much to handle. The result of this is a high turnover rate in the field. A CNA with a strong work ethic has no problem with work and looks for opportunities to grow within the profession.

In a typical day, a CNA will probably communicate with doctors, nurses, patients, patients’ families, and others. The CNA must listen effectively to relay vital information about a patient’s condition to doctors and nurses. Additionally, a patient might want to share their feelings with someone so look for a CNA who does not mind a conversation. Speaking with patients is useful when getting appropriate patient treatment. To make a significant contribution to patient care, the CNA must listen, take direction, and participate in collaborative discussions on patient care.
