Job Summary


This role is responsible for maintaining an accurate, efficient, and data driven supply location. Pulls and analyzes inventory data from Lawson/PeopleSoft to make decisions for par levels, item placement, and stock room removals. Trains staff on basic inventory management and system usage will be another function of this role in helping to create a culture of best practices. Performs Clinic Courier duties.

Job Duties

Follows hospital safety guidelines for self, patient, visitors and employees. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s)

  • Maintains and updates Lawson/PeopleSoft inventory data on a regular basis & ensures accuracy of data at all times
  • Use Lawson/PeopleSoft to extract and analyze inventory data to help with efficient & effective inventory management and root cause analysis
  • Prepares standard work for all system processes based around inventory management or location usage
  • Trains frontline staff on handheld use and Lawson/PeopleSoft use in regard to their level of access and job code(s)
  • Reviews demand patterns, days of inventory on hand (DIOH) and inventory turns to establish optimum par levels for asset & expense supply locations
  • Assists with the creation of new par location set up to ensure accuracy to Lawson/PeopleSoft system
  • Implements improvement processes and systems to reduce inventory and minimize cost across all supply locations
  • Develops reports based around inventory par location utilization and metrics to report on daily, weekly, & monthly
  • Monitors all inventory issues and ensures effective resolution
  • Maintains professional and self-development by participation in educational opportunities that are available internally and externally
  • Processes all paperwork pertinent to applicable duties
  • Responds with patient and non-patient emergencies according to SUMC policies and procedures and job requirements
  • Unpacks and inspects items for damage/shortages
  • Assists the dispatch function, answering customer inquiries and filling requisitions
  • Stores items at designated locations accurately
  • Conducts daily cycle counts of supplies in designated areas utilizing a hand-held computer at all Regional locations. Notifies Supervisor of items and quantity needed; places orders for necessary supplies
  • Examines incoming shipments to verify receipt of the correct types and quantities of materials and supplies
  • Delivers supplies to off-site locations
  • Picks up and delivers specialty pharmacy supplies for regional locations
  • Manages and delivers linen inventory to assigned areas
  • Maintains a professional work environment; keeps work area clean and organized
  • Maintains records of equipment usage and availability; processes related patient charges
  • Maintains supply carts in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. Ensures products are properly rotated
  • Picks and stages items for shipment to vendors
  • Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems
  • Participates in the orientation and training of other personnel as assigned
  • Performs patient and supply transport functions
  • Picks up charges and batches them for transmittal to Data Processing
  • Receives and fills phone and long form orders for supplies and/or equipment. Deliver clean equipment and pickup soiled equipment
  • Seeks resources for direction, when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AA degree a plus


  • Three (3) years of inventory control experience


  • California Drivers License

  • Experience with Lawson/PeopleSoft ERP preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Knowledge of the principles of receiving, storing, picking, staging and shipping materials
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff to resolve problems relating to warehouse/distribution functions and to assess, identify and respond to urgent or stat requests in an efficient, effective and appropriate manner
  • Maintain professional behavior and appearance
  • Ability to make minor repairs to equipment

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions



  • Moderately strenuous, requiring bending, lifting, stretching, squatting and climbing, as well as sedentary involving use of computer, telephone, and standard office equipment.
